In a significant stride towards championing environmental conservation and sustainable development, LPU-Batangas hosted the EcoViP’s Replication Workshop (Training of Trainers 2) on Ecotourism. The two-day event, held on February 29 and March 11, 2024, served as a pivotal platform for participants eager to delve into the intricate relationship between ecotourism and sustainable development. The workshop was spearheaded by Dr. Maribeth Buenviaje, LPUB’s Executive Director for Strategic Communications, Linkages & International Affairs, and the project manager for EcoVIP. Joining her were Dr. Hazel Venus and Dr. Jennie Margaret Apritado, Department Chairpersons from the College of International Tourism & Hospitality Management. The three of them recently completed a one-week Training of Trainers 2 program on Ecotourism and Sustainable Development, along with a study visit at the Universiti Portucalense in Portugal. Throughout the workshop, attendees were immersed in insightful discussions and practical sessions aimed at elucidating how ecotourism initiatives can effectively contribute to sustainable development goals. During the workshop, participants also had the privilege of hearing from a distinguished guest, Dr. Katrina Buted, the Head of the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office. Dr. Buted shared insights into the presentation of ecotourism destinations within the province, highlighting the importance of sustainable practices in tourism development. From promoting environmental conservation practices to supporting local communities and preserving cultural heritage, participants gained a deeper understanding of the multifaceted benefits of ecotourism. By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, the event empowered attendees to become catalysts for positive change in their respective communities. As the workshop concluded, participants left with newfound inspiration and a renewed commitment to champion ecotourism as a powerful tool for sustainable development. The event underscored LPU-Batangas’s unwavering dedication to fostering environmental stewardship and promoting sustainable practices for the betterment of society.
